Mini Mountain Mover Instructions

As I approach 1,000 supports on LEGO® Ideas I thought I would release the instructions for the Mini Mountain Mover.

If you have not already, please offer your support on LEGO® Ideas using this link. For more information about LEGO® Ideas and the Mini Mountain Mover, please see my blog post on this link.

I have created two sub-models and posted them as MOCs on Rebrickable for the instructions of the Mini Mountain Mover. One for the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) and a second for the Mountain Scene. I did this as I expect many people are interested in the Mountain Scene only since the TBM is too boring...*

Downloading the Instructions

Downloading the instructions is very simple, just head over to Rebrickable. The links to the two MOCs are below:

Buying the Parts

If you are lucky enough to have all of the parts already, you are all set! However, the Mini Mountain Mover is not a Third Model, so it is difficult to have all of the correct pieces for it. If you are interested in purchasing pieces outside of your collection, you can use Rebrickable's interface with BrickLink to help you easily purchase all of the parts.

I have used BrickLink to purchase parts successfully many times in the past and it is a great resource to find pieces you need for a build. You cannot easily purchase individual pieces directly from LEGO®. If you have never purchased pieces from BrickLink, here are some important things to keep in mind:

  • BrickLink serves as a market place for third party sellers to sell new and used pieces.

  • A large order of pieces will come from multiple sellers, each one with their own shipping fees.

  • Once you receive your order, double check the quantities and confirm you have received everything on BrickLink's website. I have had a miscount once and it was resolved very quickly with the seller.

Below are step-by-step instructions on how to purchase all of the parts you need using Rebrickable and BrickLink, using the Tunnel Boring Machine as an example.

Click the Add Parts to BrickLink Wanted List button.
  • When requested, allow Rebrickable to access information about your BrickLink profile.

  • Choose to upload the parts to a New Wanted List and click the Add Parts button:

Click the Add Parts button.
  • Click View Wanted List to jump straight to BrickLink.

  • Use the interface to select the Condition of the parts you would like (Any, New, Used). Click the green Buy All button when you are ready:

Select the Condition and then click the Buy All button.
  • You should now be in the Buy Wanted Lists screen. At the top, there will be a section for Store Filters. Select filters that make sense for you. I will add the following filters:

    • Store location: I filter for stores near me, to reduce shipping costs.

    • I select Instant Checkout for ease. Buying from stores without instant checkout means you will need to wait for them to create an invoice, which you pay later. Not a problem - just an extra step to be aware of.

    • Exclude Stores that do not ship to me, because that is just helpful.

  • Click the blue Auto-select button to allow BrickLink's interface to select stores to fullfill the order for the TBM. Generally, it works well. Otherwise, you can manually select stores from the list:

Select the store filters you would like and then click the Auto-select button.
  • In this example, BrickLink has selected 4 stores for me to order from in order to buy all of the parts I need. Click the Create carts button to place all of the orders:

Click the Create carts button.
  • With all of the carts created, you end up at a screen with a list of Checkout buttons. Click each one and complete the checkout process with each store. Each store will have a unique process which may include things like selecting a shipping speed, etc.

Click the Checkout button for each store.

After letting your payment card cool off, you will need to wait patiently for all of the parts to be delivered to your door. Most sellers are adult fans of LEGO® fullfilling the orders by hand and will be able to provide a personal touch if you have any questions.

*It never gets old :)
